Documentary Proposal

Working hypothesis and Interpretation:

Graduation is stressful and exciting. Full of both good and bad emotions, fears and goals. My film will show this by exploring the days and events leading up to graduation, graduation itself and right after graduation. The main conflict is between seniors, their last year of high school, and getting ready for graduation. In the end I want the audience to feel the way that the seniors do in the end. You never know where a story will take you, so I'm not exactly sure how exactly that will turn out. I want the audience to understand the emotions and things that go along with graduating from Coupeville High School.
Topic:
The overall topic of my film is graduation. The necessary background information the audience will need to know is that graduation is coming. To interest them in the topic, I'm going to try and use some footage that is like the "lead" of a paper in the beginning, interesting, and leaving question. I plan to start with brief footage of the pictures of the persons who have walked before them. Then showing footage of the blank wall next to the last pictures, and transparent words will fade in, "It's time for 2003." Cut then to footage of them, being them, wherever I can tape them hanging out.
Action Sequences:
Sequence #1
Showing those who have walked before. Pan down a few classes, trying to convey the idea that these people have graduated. When blank wall is reached, hold for a few seconds. Words will fade transparently onto the wall reading "It's time for 2003."
Sequence #2
Section of film with loud music, and as much "senior fun" footage as possible into a 5-10 second piece to set excitement in.
Sequence #3
Getting ready for senior project board meetings. Interviewing a couple seniors, get them to explain senior project, and convey the feelings they are encountering getting prepared for senior board presentations, and graduation.
Sequence #4
Getting caps and gowns. Interviewing seniors to see if it is settling in that they are going to graduate, if reality starts to set in more.
Sequence #5
Interview of parents. How they feel about their student graduating, the most stressful thing, how they have helped their son or daughter prepare, and who they think is more nervous about the whole graduating ordeal.
Sequence #6
Lining up for graduation. Out back of the gym, getting some of their final jitters, emotions, and stresses.
Sequence #7
Some footage of graduation itself. Valedictorian speaker(s), other student speakers. Crowd, emotions, and reactions.
Sequence #8
After graduation, families, seniors and friends, how it feels, what their plans are.
Sequence #9
3-5 juniors walking along the beginning pictures of gradates, stop at blank wall, "pose", and transparent letters say "Get ready for 2004."
Sequence #10
